Been working hard for my upcoming show. Trying to make 8 of these wooden Nike Dunk Lo shoes in time for the opening in a couple weeks. Other than that, went wheat pasting the other night with the buds and managed to paste up various spots on Sunset Blvd., as well as the Giant Robot billboard on Sawtelle, just hope I mixed the paste right.

I saw this COMMERICAL the other day for Turner Movie Classics and thought it was absolutely horrible. I like Muse and all, but the song doesn't flow at all with the video. And what's with the angst-ridden girl? Was she really necessary in promoting new shows on TCM? The best part is when she walks out onto the balcony at the end, no doubt contemplating why her horrible life has led her to looking through an antique brass telescope while vaccuming and living in a high rise apartment. Why oh why! Why must I live this wretched life of lies! Of course, there is only one real thing to do in this situation, and that is to reveal an awesome dragon tattoo. Total defiance. But I ramble, what's your take on it?

Hello people! How's the life?

So, I finally picked up my bike, put some street tires on the two wheeler and started peddlin'. A few weeks back did a bike ride with some friends called MIDNIGHT RIDAZZ. Started at 10pm from Echo Park, biked through downtown and back. Much like CRITICAL MASS. Where bikes take over the streets. Happens every month. Sweet.

Here is an artist I am fond of. His name is CHRISTOPHER SILAS NEAL and he kicks some ass. Saw him over at the JUNC GALLERY in a group show. Illustrator.

I love the rain. Actually, I love the cold.

Just got back from a trip up to San Fran. That city is so awesome. I checked out the Chuck Close exhibition at the SFMOMA which was mediocre. Just self portraits and a few large paintings. The best piece was a series of holograms of Close's head. Absolutely amazing. I also went to see Peer Pleasure 1 at the YERBA BUENA CENTER FOR THE ARTS which featured art by THE ROYAL ART LODGE (canada), INSTANT COFFEE (canada), and SPACE 1026 (philidelphia). Nice show, I guess I was expecting more art from the collectives, but it was mainly installation based. The Royal Art Lodge had a series of fifty or so small paintings. Instant Coffee had a nice installation with knitted material, sound and video. Space 1026 had a wall installation of posters and the sort, wish there was more though.

The main goal was to see two art schools, the SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE and the CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF THE ARTS. I only got around to checking out the Art Institute Graduate building, which was superb, a nice facility located in an industrial warehouse. I was lucky enough to run into a helpful grad student named Mauricio who showed me around.

In between times was spent visiting old friends which always means good times.

I finally skated today for a couple hours. It felt really great. I think I sweated out half of my body weight which brings me down to about sixty-five pounds.

Also, started this xeroxzine called THE REAMS a couple weeks back. Just drawings and the sort. I am upon completion of the second issue which deals entirely with mountains. Sounds boring. Hopefully I'll have that out by the end of November. I want to make some pins...mainly because everyone else is doing it and I like catching onto fads late.

Also, Also, went to the show at the MOCA AT THE GEFFEN CONTEMPORARY called ECSTASY. A really great show with awesome work. Highly recommended.

BADASS KIDS REINTERPRET DJ SHADOW."What's amazing is how much like the record they sound (given the rather fuzzy audio), at least on 'Building Steam'. The drummers recreate the glitchy MPC-60 loop editing pretty much perfectly(musicthing).Listen to the actual DJ Shadow songs HERE. An Artist that is Interesting to me:
Stumbled recently upon this chap. Kota Ezawa is a video artist. He was born in Germany and studied in both Germany and America."Ezawa takes movie or news segments and rather than "filter" the original to make it look like animation, as digital technology permits, he reconstructs it by hand" (Kenneth Baker, San Francisco Chronicle 10/25/02). I have yet to see one of his video installations, and can't find any DVDs of his videos either. Let's keep an eye out.

Had a couple of interviews this week. Both went crappy. One of them I didn't care about, I just went for the practice and the other was a letdown because the people led me on.

Philip Guston is my hero (I have many). I never really paid much attention to his work in books, but when I saw one of these suckers in person, it was like being slapped in the face. A good slap...the kind that wakes you up for something important.

So I just started working at a gallery called THE HINT MINT GALLERY. The actual company makes MINTS which are superb in taste, especially the cinnamon. Harley, the owner, is starting up a gallery and I am trying my best to help out. The people are super cool and the atmosphere is great.

I went to Sport Chalet today. They have a bait tank with cray fish. I went late so it seemed most of them were dead. But one looked like it was hanging on to the netting for dear life. I think it thought that if it let go it would end up like the others. Just a thought.

So I have been commuting to LA a lot, and it sucks. Especially since gas is over three bucks a gallon. I intern on Fridays, so I usually just hang around out there for the entire weekend, which is cool I guess, but man, I should either just move out there or move to some other city.

Oh, and I got some new pants.

Oh, also, I found my college sketchbook, amongst other things, laying about the garage. Here is a doodle from it.

Randall SELLERS. So I saw this guy's work a few days back at the Richard Heller Gallery. Amazing stuff. The images you see are pretty much the actual size of his drawings. He doesn't use a magnifying glass when he draws...he just ate a lot of carrots when he was a kid, so his vision is superb.

I see I am losing followers to ART LAD. Now, I am usually a kind, gentle being. I do not squish bugs nor pee on areas that have already been marked by previous animals...I mean it is all out of respect. So there is no reason for me to be offended by this wee lil' tater-tot, pumpkin pie hair cutted freak. Congrats Art lad, you have officially made my BAD list, which means a fifteen minute time out and no dessert after dinner.

On top of this predicament , this happened as well:

I got a physical on someday last week. Two nurses came in to give me a tetnus shot. The nurse who was giving me the shot was saying something like,"Which arm do you write with?" and some other jibber-jab about the shot making your arm sore and having it in the non-writing arm would be the most preferred choice. So, I weighed the positives and negatives of each arm and came to a conclusion, "my right arm."So she proceeds to the counter to grab the syringe and the alcohol soaked cotton ball and returns back to me. She grabs my right arm and makes the motion to start disinfecting the area of needle penetration. Seeing her obvious mistake, I reply, "that's my right arm" with no response I say again "that's my right arm...this is my left" pointing to my other arm. The second nurse who was watching the whole bit chuckled, "She doesn't know her left from her right", and I was thinking to myself, "no shit."

Hey people, back from my journey through Europe. Had a frickin' great time!
Knowledge was definitely gained as well as a shaggy beard and some tannage on the arms, face and legs.
Things lost: weight, and money.

Hopefully I haven't lost my EXTREMELY large following (yeah, whatever) of dedicated frequenters due to the absence of updates.

Have you tried this out yet? Type Q 33 NY in a word document, 48 size, wingding font. I guess Q 33 was the flight number of the first plane to hit the World Trade Center Towers. Pretty crazy.

Also my favorite band (next to Radiohead) A MINOR FOREST. Although they are no longer together, you can still LISTEN AND BUY. "Flemish Altruism" is a very good album, looking to buy the double CD "So Were They in Some Sort of Fight?"

3) High fives in Downeyland is also a double meaning. It could mean you get high because of the fiver you put on a sack of weed in Downey. Or it could mean you scored some awesome accomplishment in Downey (not sure what that would be).
4) Bitter sitter means what it says it means. Figure it out.
5) Northerly winds is reference to passing gas, because all farts go north I've heard.

Just received the movie DOWNTOWN 81. A film about the 80's underground art and music scene in New York. I wanted the movie especially because it features Basquiat (in the flesh). I was expecting more art, but I can't complain.

For PC I think you hold down the control button. I am sure you all already know this but just in case. So my girl hooked us all up with free tickets to the BEAUTIFUL LOSERS opening party last night.The OCMA was jam packed with at least 700 people. Quite the lively night, met so many artists it was unbelievable. Highlight: the chance meeting with BARRY MCGEE. Yes, the same artist whose book I tote in my backpack everywhere and is my greatest source of inspiration (from a living artist, that is). Chatted with him and he tagged my pocket book. Dope!
